Dr Chris Maylea is a mental health social worker, mental health lawyer, consultant and academic. He teaches and researches at the intersections between law and health and welfare, particularly mental health law. He is an experienced evaluator, having led the evaluation of Independent Mental Health Advocacy in Victoria, and is Co-Chief Investigator on two national research projects, one aimed at preventing gendered violence in mental health inpatient units, and the other aimed at improving the physical health of people diagnosed with a mental illness. He has also completed projects on advance statements under the Mental Health Act in Victoria, and on intersections between the experience of people seeking asylum and refugees, disability, education and social work practice.
